I spent a couple of hours checking out the beach on an incoming tide to see what waders I could find. There were some migratory birds present to add to those I had recorded earlier in the week on the farm.
Greater Sand Plover. A common passage migrant and winter visitor
Lesser Sand Plover still in breeding plumage. A common passage migrant and winter visitor
Kentish Plover. A breeding resident seen here in winter plumage
Curlew Sandpiper. A common passage migrant seen here still sporting summer plumage
Terek Sandpiper. A common passage migrant and winter visitor
Ruddy Turnstone. A frequent passage migrant and winter visitor
Little Stint. An abundant passage migrant and winter visitor
Slender-billed Gull. A common winter visitor
Other species included: Western Reef Heron, both dark and white forms and a few Whimbrels which did not allow me close enough for an image. Also see next post on Terns.
