Male Lion. A massive cat , biggest of the African carnivores.
African Elephant. Enormous and unmistakable.
Hippopotamus. A rather large lawn mower.
White Rhino. Second largest land mammal. A no nonsense roadblock.
Giraffe. Too tall for my lens, so portrait it had to be.
Leopard. Red Data Book: Rare. CITES Appendix 1.
Kudu Bulls at waterhole.
Kudu Bull. Tall and majestic.
Burchell's Zebra. A black and white striped pony.
Adult male Nyala. Unmistakable with his long yellow socks.
Black-backed Jackal. Out patrolling early one morning.
Impala Does and a couple of young males at a waterhole. Safety in numbers.
Klipsringer Male overlooking his territory. Bonus points for identifying his friend on the rock.
Springbok. A distinctive Southern African antelope, as well as National Rugby Team moniker.
Suricate. On sentry duty keeping a look out for raptors.
Porcupine. A regular visitor to our home in Johannesburg, where I feed him avocado pears.
He thanks us by leaving the occasional quill and scent marks on our patio.
