We have only been in Leadwood for a few weeks and my bird list here is beginning to grow. I have recorded 55 species since arriving. Not too bad a start for late Winter. I spotted my first Palearctic migrant today. An obliging Wood Sandpiper seen here feeding at a small waterhole. What an epic eight months. After we arrived back in South Africa we set about looking for a place to retire to. We finally decided to settle in the Lowveld near the Kruger National Park just outside a small town called Hoedspruit. We purchased a stand in a development called Leadwood Big Game Estate. We have been travelling backwards and forwards from Johannesburg whilst we oversaw the progress of the building of our new home. Finally after what seemed like eternity the day dawned when we were finally able to move in. After unpacking all our possessions I was reunited with my desktop computer so I am once more able to edit my images and begin posting online. Here are a few of the birds seen around the house in the last few days Acacia Pied Barbet. A near endemic species Female Golden-tailed Woodpecker Grey Go-away Bird Green Woodhoopoe Ashy Flycatcher Yellow-breasted Apalis Southern Yellow-billed Hornbill
