To replace our two Cheetah cubs which were relocated to another Game Reserve (June 2021) we have received another adult female to bolster our Cheetah numbers. As is the norm when she arrived she was placed in a boma and fed Impala carcasses whilst she acclimatised to her new home. Recently she was released into the greater Reserve. The other evening I was fortunate to connect with her as she discovered one of a our dams and was able to quench her thirst. She will continue to explore until she becomes fully acquainted with her new surroundings. The next milestone will be when she makes her first kill and has a good feed now that she has to fend for herself. Hopefully before long she will meet and mate with our resident male and we will then get to see her raise a litter of cubs. In a best case scenario both our females will be covered and we end up getting two new sets of cubs, here is hoping
As we were watching the Ellies the other evening one of the cows decided to come and check us out
With the recent introduction of the Elephant to the Reserve it was always going to be interesting as to how the Lion coalition and the Ellies would interact. I have now seen on two separate occasions how the Ellies have chased them off when their paths crossed. The most recent encounter involved several females charging them with much trumpeting and ear-flapping. They then formed a defensive ring around the calves until they were satisfied the danger had passed Collar - still the Boss Notch - the lead scout and Collars best mate Mullet - the black sheep who is always playing catch up Collar Notch Mullet

See my earlier post dated 06072021 regarding a pair of these storks that had built a nest on top of an electricity pylon. The fledgling has finally flown the coop and managed to safely avoid the power lines which were in close proximity to the nest Relaxing one afternoon at a dam near the nest site Enjoying the late afternoon sunshine The male on guard duty nearby. The female I presume was off on food gathering sortie
This bird was quietly moving through the canopy of a Knobthorn tree on the look out food items Having had no luck there it popped across to a nearby Weeping Boerbean tree and continued the search It appears to be pecking at the lichen growing on this shaded branch in frustration Which turns out to be an incredibly well camouflaged caterpillar. Jackpot at last!
