The recent worldwide viral outbreak has impacted everybody. Observing lock-down has been extremely frustrating to say the least. We have had some visitors to our home over this period which has offered a few photographic opportunities. Last week I also finally decided that I would begin to go out on game-drives on our Reserve to prevent me from going absolutely insane. It is mid Winter so birding activity is much reduced but with a bit of effort I am sure to get back into the swing of things and start capturing images on a regular basis A male Warthog with a fine paid of tusks busy feeding on the green grass in the dry riverbed below our house A family of Ashy Flycatchers visits us on a regular basis. They often hawk insects in the large tree growing next to our deck A female Duiker regularly visits our waterhole to drink The two female lions recently killed a Wildebeest close to our home. After they and all the cubs had gorged on meat they decided to rest up for a while at the end of our driveway There was a conveniently placed large puddle on the side of the road from which they all drank This juvenile White-backed Vulture roosted overnight on a large dead tree in the back corner of our plot This male Bushbuck is also a regular visitor to the waterhole at our house A Hamerkop busy feeding in the shallows of one of the dams A Natal Spurfowl out in the open late one evening One of a pair of resident Three-banded Plovers on one of our dams The Blacksmith Lapwings managed to breed successfully this season. Here is their surviving sub-adult offspring Driving in the riverbed I came across this Brown-hooded Kingfisher excavating a tunnel into the riverbank. i will monitor this site to see what transpires Pale Chanting Goshawk A female Red-billed Firefinch Striped Kingfisher Lounging on Leadwood
