Loud calling alerted me to the nearby presence of Striped Kingfishers. When I located the birds it turned out to be two pairs in a stand off. It must have been a territorial dispute with much calling and displaying and finally actual combat between what I presume was the two males involved. We have a resident pair that breed annually in the same nest built in the canopy of an Anaboom tree. Driving past their nest the other day I saw a juvenile bird present. This morning I was alerted by alarming Guineafowl near one of our dams and when I went to investigate I found the pair of Hawk-Eagles perched in a dead tree with several Guineafowl having takien cover under the branches of a bush below. It was a waiting game with the Eagles finally losing patience and departing Note the pale rufous feathering on the breast, neck and head as well as the brown eyes Male African Hawk-Eagle Female African Hawk-Eagle. A larger bird than the male with heavier feather streaking
