Verreaux's Eagle-Owl. I suspect it is the recently fledged chick as it was seen in the nest area and looking carefully I can see some downy feathers still present on the breast and flanks Male Spurwing Goose Female Spurwing Goose Yellow-billed Kite

I heard monkeys alarming early one afternoon. I walked down into the riverbed below our house to see if i could pick up the cause of all the noise which normally means a predator of some sorts. I could not see anything so decided to take a drive. As luck would have it I came across the female Cheetah and her two cubs lying up next to the road nearby. They then moved off a short distance and lay down to rest a bit more. I sat and observed them until the early evening when they headed off towards the pan for a drink. Once they had quenched their thirsts they set off to hunt, so I decided to leave them alone to get on with the business of securing a meal Mum and cubs scanning the surrounding area The female cub is almost as large as her Mum now Mum and daughter Mum relaxing Portrait of the Male cub A scan of the surrounding area before having a drink
I have not been doing justice to the birding recently. Spring is upon us and I must make more of an effort! Here are the images I managed to capture this week A shy Southern Ground-Hornbill keeping its distance from me. My first image of one here on the Reserve. They are listed as Vulnerable in South Africa This flock of Guinea-fowl were quite brave and ventured close to the lion pride which was relaxing up on the dam wall early one evening The Lesser Striped-Swallows have arrived and have immediately busied themselves with nest building. I watched a pair as they repeatedly returned to one of our waterholes to collect mud A lone White-backed Vulture gives me the beady eye as I drove underneath the dead tree it was perched in My first images of a Red-chested Cuckoo. The peace and quiet has been shattered!! It obligingly changed its perch position to give me a lovely full frontal view of its chest
