We have had our first good rains of the season followed by some overcast days. Whilst the light has not been great the birding has been busy Island hopping three-banded Plover Juvenile Three-banded Plover The Red-billed Buffalo Weavers are back at last years nest and busy with some repairs and renovations The Striped Kingfisher parents are busy ferrying in food to theirbrood This is a luxury nest suite, note the separate loo portal to the right of the entrance The Red-chested Cuckoos are in full voice As I arrived this Tawny Eagle decided to depart Sadly I clipped the wing as I tried to track its flight path after take-off A red-billed Hornbill made several trips to the water hole to collect mud,which it ferried off to the nest hole A male Red-crested Korhaan on his calling site

Recently excavated nest hole in a dead branch of a Buffalo Thorn Tree Proud Acacia Pied Barbet adult Both adults share incubation duties and rotate about every 40 minutes Having been alerted by the call of the other arriving parent this one is about to end its shift in the nest This pair of Striped Kingfishers are using a nest hole that was used last season by a pair of Woodland Kingfishers. The Woodland Kingfishers are due soon so it will be interesting to see if this brood has already left by the time they arrive. Both parents are ferrying in feed items to the chicks in the nest A food delivery in progress A parent having made the delivery is about to leave the nest on another feeding foray
